Minor in the Art and Technology of DJing
The Art and Technology of DJing minor provides students with a foundational blend of creative, technical, and cultural insights into the world of DJing. Through a combination of hands-on practice and theoretical study, students will explore DJing as both an art form and a dynamic field in contemporary music technology. This program covers essential skills, including mixing, beatmatching, and audio production, while also addressing the historical and cultural influences that have shaped DJ culture. By the program’s end, students will have gained the tools and knowledge necessary to create, perform, and innovate within the evolving landscape of DJing and electronic music.

Upon successful completion of this program, students will:
- demonstrate proficiency in core DJing techniques (such as beatmatching, mixing, and cueing) across a variety of platforms and hardware setups;
- create and perform live DJ sets that showcase artistic identity, technical fluency, and an understanding of audience engagement;
- apply principles of audio production and signal flow to prepare, manipulate, and integrate music for live and recorded DJ performance contexts;
- analyze the historical, cultural, and social roots of DJ culture, including its global impact and role in shaping contemporary music genres;
- design innovative DJ workflows and performance strategies using emerging technologies and creative approaches to expand the boundaries of live electronic music; and
- develop professional skills and industry knowledge necessary for a career in DJing, including branding, promotion, event preparation, and the navigation of live performance environments.
