DJ Techniques for EDI Players and Music Producers

Course Number
ISEL-250
Description

This course will provide electronic music production and performance focused students the foundational techniques and skills required for being DJs/Producers in a variety of contemporary DJ settings, such as clubs or online streaming platforms. Throughout the semester, students will become familiar with the industry standard DJ equipment most commonly used in today's venues. The course will focus on students finding their own creative voices through an exploration of curation techniques, set-building, track organization, mixing styles, and troubleshooting within live performances, as well as through discussions about professionalism, branding, and agency in the field.

Students will work to hone their personal DJ styles and will work collaboratively on back-to-back mixing. The foundational techniques covered in this course can be applied to all digital DJ formats and will prepare students for real life DJ events. Subjects will include incorporating students' electronic music productions or EDI performance controllers into DJ sets. Students will make final performance presentations at the end of the semester.
