Mediterranean Music Institute Spring Concert: La Canción en Español
The Mediterranean Music Institute’s spring concert will feature a guest artist from the Mediterranean region, performing with an ensemble of student musicians, led by creative director Javier Limón and music director Matthew Nicholl.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Mediterranean Music Institute’s main focus this year has been on music in Spanish. This music is not only about the language—it’s about many different cultures all from the same Mediterranean root, with a vast variety of accents and cadences, the different musical styles that have evolved in Spain and all through Latin America, and its poetry.
The MMI’s annual spring concert this year will be dedicated to songwriting in Spanish. Students will perform their own compositions as well as traditional repertoire from Spain and Latin America.
