Turkish vocalist, bağlama player, and composer Mahir Can Küçük presents a clinic about odd meter grooves. In this clinic, the approach of an Eastern Mediterranean-based musician and a healthy approach of a Western musician will be presented. The presentation will start with the simple understanding of homogenous grooves and connect to the heterogenous grooves and explain why these grooves are trickier to internalize. Various live and video presentations will be included.

Mahir Can Küçük was born in Denizli, Turkey. After receiving a degree in industrial design, he began his studies at Berklee, studying contemporary writing and production. Besides being a writer, arranger and producer, Küçük is a vocalist who features Western contemporary music, Turkish classical, traditional, and contemporary music in his repertoire. He is able to sing microtonally, with knowledge of Turkish and Egyptian microtonal tradition. He plays baglama, bass guitar, piano, guitar, and hand percussion.

Küçük has performed at various Berklee Performance Center events, with both his Turkish and Western music background. Additionally, he has also performed on campus recitals with his organic world fusion and Turkish music band "The Çay Party."
