Online Audition and Interview FAQs
Get answers to questions about the audition and interview process for Berklee College of Music’s Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Arts in Black Music and Culture programs. Is an ethernet connection required?
No, but we do strongly encourage applicants to connect to the internet using one. While Wi-Fi is great, an ethernet connection typically ensures the best possible internet connection.
What happens if I don’t have a good internet connection where I live?
We will allow you to retake the internet speed test a few times to make sure we're getting an accurate reading from you. If we are unable to schedule you due to those results, we will find another audition option for you.
What platform is Berklee using to host online auditions and interviews?
We conduct online auditions and interviews via Zoom.
I’ve been scheduled for an audition. How do I receive the link to my audition room?
The week of your audition, you will receive an email with detailed instructions about logging in for your online audition, which will include a link to the online audition and interview lobby. Once you're logged in, use the chat feature to connect with an admissions staff member who will send you links to your audition and interview rooms.
Is the scheduled audition date and time I received in my local time zone?
All online audition and interview dates and times are listed in Eastern time (EDT/EST). Please be sure you convert the date and time you received to your local time zone.
My scheduled time is different from the audition and interview lobby start time. What time is my audition?
The audition and interview meeting start time indicates the time that the audition event starts. You should join the Zoom meeting at the specific time slot listed in your application portal.
Should I use headphones for my audition and interview?
The optimal setup includes an audio interface or corded headphones with an external microphone. You may use wired headphones with a built-in microphone if this is the equipment available to you. Do not use bluetooth headphones.
If you are accompanying yourself, make sure we can hear both you and the accompaniment.
How do I complete the sight-reading part of my audition?
The faculty member(s) conducting your audition will share their screen so you can view the sight-reading material for your instrument. They will give you a moment to review it and make any adjustments to its size on your screen.
How do I complete the improvisation section?
The faculty member(s) conducting your audition will share links to audio tracks that you will be asked to play. This will allow them to hear both your performance and the play-along track at the same time, and eliminate any latency.
Can I set up multiple microphones for my audition?
We suggest using one microphone since multiple microphones may overload the system and cause your audio to cut out. If you require multiple microphones, please make sure they're compatible with the Zoom platform and that you know how to connect them as your main audio source prior to the start of the audition.
