Blockchain News: BerkleeICE's Open Music Initiative to Host Music and Rights Management Blockchain Events
Blockchain News contributing writer Alex Behren reports on the Open Music Initiative (OMI), an initiative of Berklee's Institute for Creative Entrepreneurship (BerkleeICE), regarding its first event about the impact of technology on artistry and fan engagement. The first series of OMI events will be held at Ace Hotel New Orleans on February 27.
Speaking to the project, Panos A. Panay, the vice president for innovation and strategy and managing director of BerkleeICE, said "we spent the last year and a half building prototypes and an API [Application Protocol Interface] to dramatically simplify the way that music creators and rights owners are identified and compensated." To turn Panay's ambition into reality, OMI will teach how the blockchain will bring change to the music industry.
