Ensemble Professor Carolyn Wilkins received a Fulbright Specialist Programme grant for her trip to Grahamstown, South Africa. During her visit, she attended the International Association of Popular Music's 16th Biennial Conference and participated in the Standard Bank National Youth Jazz Festival. Wilkins also performed with four of South Africa's top jazz musicians, directed a student ensemble, and presented workshops on jazz improvisation techniques.
Associate Professor of Harmony John Stein released his 10th album, Hi Fly, which features various faculty colleagues and students.
String Professor John McGann recently premiered a new piece written for mandolin, string quartet, and rhythm section with the ensemble Classical Tangent at Tanglewood in Lenox, MA.
Composition Professor Beth Denisch will premiere her piece Yanvalou on November 13 with the Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra. Denisch has also received an invitation to be the composer in residence at the University of Missouri from November 10-12, and keynote speaker for the Women in the Arts Conference.
Ensemble Professor Greg Osby appeared at the Village Vanguard jazz club in New York City for a six-night run August 9-14. During the stint, he featured alumni performers Melissa Aldana '10 and Kendrick Scott '02 as well as pianist and composer Marc Copland and bassist Steve LaSpina.
Associate Professor of Composition Larry Bell conducted his work Baroque Concerto at the Boston Early Music Festival in June.

Assistant Professor of Harmony David Harris toured with the group Debo Band this summer, performing traditional and original Ethiopian music. Highlights included a sold-out concert at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts courtyard concert series, and performances at the Montreal Jazz Festival, and the Lincoln Center Out of Doors festival with Feni Dika, traditional Ethiopian dancers and musicians. The ensemble also gave concerts and workshops at the Lowell Folk Festival.
Assistant Professor of Percussion Sergio Bellotti was invited to teach four master classes at the KoSA International Percussion Workshop, Camp, and Festival. The July events featured drummers Neil Peart, Jimmy Cobb, and Zoro.
Composition Professor Apostolos Paraskevas and Mathew Tucciarone directed the film I Finally Did It, which premiered at the Coolidge Corner Theatre. The film received a Gold Level Award at the 2010 California Film Awards and a Silver Screen Award at the 2010 Nevada Film Festival.
Professional Music Professor Tom Stein was a visiting professor at Modern Muzik Akademisi and Robert College, both in Istanbul, Turkey. Stein taught classes and workshops on a variety of topics, including music theory in performance to marketing to artist development.
String Department Chair Melissa Howe, Woodwinds Professor Barbara LaFitte, and Composition Professor Ronald Feldman performed during this past summer's Boston Landmarks Orchestra season. The orchestra presents free classical music concerts to a diverse audience at various local-area landmarks.
Music Education Chair Cecil Adderley received the Academic Achievement Award from the Western Carolina University Alumni Association at a recent ceremony.
Assistant Professor of Harmony Steven Kirby conducted an educational clinic titled "Triad Pairs: A Resource for Expanding Improvisational Vocabulary" at the Jazzschool for Music Study and Performance in Berkeley, CA.

Associate professors Gilson Schachnik and Fernando Huergo received a Berklee faculty grant to record the new CD Mozik. The disc blends Brazilian rhythms and forms with early fusion sounds popularized by Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock. In addition to Schachnik (piano) and Huergo (bass), the CD features Mauricio Zottarelli '02 (drums), Gustavo Assis-Brasil '01 (guitar), and Yulia Musayelyan (flute).
Music Education Professor Peter Cokkinias played woodwinds in George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess revival at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, MA. In July. Cokkinias also performed at Boston's Colonial Theatre in the pit orchestra for Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story. Cokkinias has also begun his 33rd season as the music director and conductor of the Metrowest Symphony Orchestra.
This summer, Associate Professor of Contemporary Writing and Production Ron Reid performed with his Sunsteel Sextet at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Reid also played at the International Belgian Percussion Festival with Assistant Professor Dave Samuels and the Caribbean Jazz Project.
The Jeff Covell Trio, which includes Piano Professor Jeff Covell and Bass Chair Rich Appleman, and Steve Turner has reunited after 20 years. The trio performed at the David Friend Recital Hall in October and is making a new recording.
Piano Professor Laszlo Gardony performed at the Bar Harbor Jazz Festival in Maine, celebrating the release of his ninth album, Signature Time.
Assistant Professor of Liberal Arts Anthony Scibilia was invited to add significant portions of his archive of photographs of art and architecture to Art Resource, a digital art library in New York. Scibilia's photographs have been published in Marilyn Stokstad's Art History, and Laurie Schneider Adams's History of Western Art.

Associate Professor of Harmony Winnie Dahlgren finished a two-week Berklee Faculty Fellowship in Mozambique, where she presented Berklee's online program for underserved kids. Dahlgren also performed at the American ambassador's house and held two workshops at the Eduardo Mondlane University on jazz composition. In collaboration with the embassy, Dahlgren traveled to the small village Zavala to record the music of the timbila orchestra (Mozambique marimba).
Ear Training Professor David Vose penned the instructional drum book Drum Studies: Concepts, Reading, Phrasing, and Technique, which was published by Berklee Press in July.
A work by Associate Professor of Composition Elena Lucas was featured on the new Albany Records album In the Style Of. Lucas's Concertino for Trumpet and Piano is one of six contemporary works on the album by acclaimed classical trumpeter Terry Everson.
Assistant Professor Kevin Harris and Marco Pignataro, the managing director of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, performed with Ben Street at Smalls Jazz Club in New York on October 7. They will also appear with world-renowned bassist Eddie Gomez at the Villa Victoria Center for the Arts in Boston's South End on October 28.
Berklee City Music Program instructor Tim Mayer released his album Resilience on Jazz Legacy Productions.
