Thirteen Alumni Get Latin Grammy Nods
Thirteen Berklee alumni working in one of the most vital segments of the music industry have been nominated for Latin Grammy Awards. The majority of nominees-10 in all-are Music Production and Engineering (MP&E) department alumni. Some are competing against one another in the Record and Album of the Year categories. Others appear in the Best Engineered Album and Producer of the Year categories. Three MP&E alumni nominees are multi-Latin Grammy Award winners. Benny Faccone '78 has won seven, Gustavo Borner '89 has received six, and Gustavo Celis '94 has garnered five. áureo Baqueiro '92, with two previous awards, is up for producer of the year for his work on recordings by six different artists.
Also nominated for engineering and production work are Enrique Larreal '04, J.C. Monterrosa '97, Nick Baxter '07, Carlos Paucar '93, Alex Leader '05, Justin Moshkevich '07.
Alumni nominated in performance categories were Al Di Meola '74 for his Pursuit of Radical Rhapsody album; Bobby Sanabria '79 for the recording Tito Puente Masterworks Live!!!; and Alexander Acha '03, who won a Latin Grammy for best new artist in 2009, is nominated this year in the Best Short Form Music Video category for his song "Amiga."
Winners will be announced on November 10 at the 12th Annual Latin Grammy Awards ceremony at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The Univision Network will broadcast the proceedings live at 8:00 P.M. Eastern. Since the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences was founded in 2000, 19 Berklee alumni have received a total of 54 Latin Grammy Awards.
