Music and Community Health: A Special Convening
When
October 26, 2018
About
This initiative aimed to gather foundational information on music and health-centered programs that incorporate active music experiences to impact overall quality of life in our communities, including identifying programs and the health-related outcomes being addressed within these programs, as well as identifying the resources to ensure sustainability outside of structured individual and group experiences, and whether this would be done through the process of trained community musicians, music therapists, and advocates or through technological advances.
Agenda
Music and the Brain: The Cerebral Processing of Music with Phillip L. Pearl, MD; Director of Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology, Boston Children's Hospital; William G. Lennox Chair and Professor of Neurology, Harvard Medical School
Roundtable Discussions: An opportunity for participants to reflect on the presentations shared, exchange ideas, and explore key issues, trends, and practices related to the intersection of community and music.
Areas of focus included...
- Impact: the number of individuals served through programs in identified communities; what communities are being served
- Effectiveness on an individual’s overall health and wellbeing
- Sustainability: ability to sustain benefits outside of structured experiences for long-term personal and community growth through the use of trained community musicians and/or advances in technology
