Vision and Goals

Vision

  • To serve as global leaders in education, training, and advocacy through establishment of music therapy and music therapy informed research and program development.

  • To serve as leaders in contemporary music therapy practice, including innovative delivery methods to address health and healing in local, national, and international communities.

  • To serve as collaborators and consultants to healthcare, educational, government, and music industry professionals on the power of music for community connection, social change, and improved quality of life.

  • To develop partnerships with leading healthcare and community organizations to connect classrooms and form research collaborations.

Goals

The center's goals are as follows:

  • To provide individual and group music therapy services, targeting health disparities, within the greater community

  • To provide rich, social justice–informed clinical training experiences for future music therapists in a variety of community-based settings

  • To serve as an information dissemination center for the general public, health care community, and music industry on the impact of music experiences on health-related outcomes

  • To serve as a catalyst for music therapy and music therapy–informed program development in communities worldwide

  • To provide lectures, symposia, workshops, and continuing education programing for community stakeholders, including health care professionals, educational leaders, and community leaders to leverage the use of music experiences for community health
