The Native American Church (NAC) is renowned for its sacred peyote songs. The water drum, gourd rattle, and powerful songs are an integral part of the ceremony. In this presentation, historian Erika Dyck provides some of the historical context for the spread of the NAC in North America and its influence on medical research involving “set and setting” for psychedelic studies. Norman Ross, NAC chapter president, will explain the significance of peyote music in this sacred ceremony.
