Edvard Lee is a Malaysian American jazz pianist, producer, audio engineer, entrepreneur, and associate professor in the performance division at Berklee College of Music. At Berklee, he founded the Berklee Asia Rising Ensemble and the Berklee Asia Rising platform, a faculty-led initiative supporting Asian and Asian American creators and highlighting their impact across contemporary music. He also created LIVE SET 01: Future Tours – Architecture of the Modern Contemporary Touring Musician, a performance-intensive course examining the professional standards and ensemble precision required for modern touring artists.
Lee authored the original curriculum for Berklee’s J-Pop and K-Pop ensembles, integrating East Asian popular music into the contemporary performance curriculum. His work focuses on contemporary music performance, creative production, and cross-cultural collaboration, with particular attention to the relationship between artistic training and the professional practices of the global music industry. His performance and production work includes collaborations with global media organizations such as Netflix, National Geographic, and the Beijing Winter Olympics, as well as projects connected with Sony Music (USA), Warner Music Taiwan, and MBK (Korea). His collaborators include Cory Henry, Tom Browne, Sharay Reed, Steve Hunt, and Charles Haynes.
As a performer, he has appeared at venues including Boston Symphony Hall and the TD Garden, and at festivals such as the Mumbai Jazz Festival and the Martha’s Vineyard Jazz Experience. In 2018, he released a solo EP featuring drummer John Ashley Thomas.
Lee is also the founder of Patterns Ltd, a media and culture company, and Eidolon Recording Studios. As an entrepreneur, he is the cofounder of award-winning restaurants Cha Yen Thai Cookery, Kala Thai Cookery, and Boxfish Seafood Restaurant. He is a voting member of the Recording Academy and a member of the Audio Engineering Society.
