In Their Own Words

"I think of myself as a facilitator rather than a teacher. I try to give my students tools they can use, and help them to ask pertinent questions, to push farther and dig deeper to discover insights on their own. Life is very, very complicated—the easy answers are rarely the right answers. What's important is that we keep asking the questions."

"The creative energy of Berklee's students and staff permeates all levels of the college. The creativity and drive to be at the forefront of the music industry requires Berklee to stay dynamic and embrace change quickly, and you can feel it in the culture of the institution."

"As a former professional musician myself, I understand what it's like to be in these students' positions as aspiring music professionals. They are often so intensely into their crafts that the other sides of life aren't necessarily apparent to them. I try to show them the value of the liberal arts and intellectual inquiry, and the importance of having a multifaceted life, more generally."

"Among the many things that make Berklee special is the creative energy that permeates all levels of the college. The sense of possibility, the openness to change: you can feel it in the students, faculty, and administration."
