PODCAST: Inside Berklee—Annette Philip

Next month, at an all-star event in Mumbai, India featuring the likes of A. R. Rahman, Clinton Cerejo, and Vijay Prakash, the Berklee India Exchange (BIX) will award its first scholarships. The awards, called the Berklee A. R. Rahman Scholarships in honor of the Grammy- and Academy Award-winning film score composer, will go to talented musicians of Indian origin who wish to study at Berklee's Boston campus.
The events in India will mark the latest success for BIX, which Annette Philip and Clint Valladares created in 2013 to celebrate the rich history of Indian music and to seek new expressions of it through cultural exchanges in residencies, workshops, music videos, and live performances.
In addition to being the artistic director of BIX and an associate professor of voice, Philip is also the founder and director of the Berklee Indian Ensemble, which now features more than 50 members from more than 42 different countries.
