The liberal arts and sciences department presents Music of the Sitar, a master class presented by the renowned sitarist Pundit Gaurav Mazumdar, accompanied by Amit Kavthekar on Tabla.
Grammy-nominated virtuoso of the sitar for over 30 years, Gaurav Mazumdar has been offering audiences around the world compelling experiences with one of the world's most ancient and sacred traditions, Indian classical music. Like his teacher, the legendary Pt. Ravi Shankar, Mazumdar has numerous collaborations with western musicians such as Daniel Hope and Philip Glass to name a few. His performances have been widely acclaimed and appreciated by audiences at various music festivals and venues all across the globe spanning Asia, Australia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas. He is passionate about teaching and devotes a substantial amount of his time to teaching disciples from all over the world. He combines creativity and tradition to bring out the rasa of Indian classical music. He is known for his artistry for breathing life into the raga form.
