Dan Marshall

A book writer, lyricist, and playwright, Dan Marshall is a 2026 NY State Council on the Arts Commissioned-playwright for his new play, Lefty Lucy, at Boomerang Theatre Company in New York City. His musical Wild Child (book, lyrics) with Julianne Wick Davis (music) will enjoy its world premiere at Laguna Beach Playhouse in 2026 after developmental productions at Penn State University and The Canadian Musical Theatre Project in 2025. 

Dan co-wrote with Becca Blackmore the book and lyrics to Quiz Bowl (Julian Blackmore, music), which won Best New Musical at the 2014 New York Musicals Festival (NYMF) and received a special citation for book and lyrics.

His other works include Snow Way Out (MicroMusical Show); The Peculiar Tale of the Prince of Bohemia and the Society of Desperate Victorians (Goodspeed Festival of New Musicals 2019); Swish (music, Joel Derfner); Murder of Crows (Boomerang Theatre Company; Brooklyn Generator); andThe Five Sorrowful Mysteries (LocalLabCo Semi-finalist). 

Dan has written several plays for young audiences. Among them are #NoFilter: The Picture of Tori Anne Gray, Operation A.L.I.B.I., Gaia’s Great Greek Gabfest (Aurand Harris finalist), and President Mom, co-authored with Becca Blackmore, which won the Ronald M. Ruble Prize. His work has been supported by The Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation, The Anna Sosenko Charitable Trust, and NYSCA.
