Brian Gellerstein is an assistant professor of music education at Berklee College of Music, where he teaches about contemporary issues in urban public school systems, research methods, and culturally responsive pedagogy. He earned his PhD in urban education leadership and policy at the University of Massachusetts Boston, where his dissertation research addressed the connections between white supremacy and gatekeeping in music education. He has a broad background in music education, including public school music teaching, music education nonprofit leadership, district arts leadership, and higher education teaching. In addition, he serves on the editorial board for the Massachusetts Music Educators Journal as the editor of the jazz and contemporary music column. He delivers presentations on topics including the dismantling of white supremacy in education, anti-racism, culturally responsive pedagogy, and culturally generative teaching and learning.
