The Liberal Arts and Sciences Department presents Interactions of Tradition: Exploring Indian Classical Dance, a master class and clinic. Presented by renowned dancers Bharatanatyam artist Padmini Ravi and Kathak artist Farah Yasmeen Shaikh.
 
Padmini Ravi is an exponent of Bharatanatyam, a performer, and and teacher. She reveals a new dimension and approach to dance inspired from her exposure and international travels. She explores the allied art forms such as theater, folk dance, classical music, and cinema and creates acclaimed choreographic compositions. She is the recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award as well as the State Rajyotsava Award for her contribution to the field of dance. Ravi's name is synonymous with innovation, integrity, and quality. She is a passionate dancer, teacher, and she is the founder and director of the Padmini Ravi Dance Academy in Bangalore, India.
 
Farah Yasmeen Shaikh is an internationally acclaimed Kathak artist, performer, choreographer, instructor, and founder/artistic director of Noorani Dance. Known for her evocative storytelling, technical precision, delicacy, and grace, Shaikh received two decades of training from Pandit Chitresh Das, and has gone on to develop a unique artistic voice, while maintaining the classical elements of Kathak. Shaikh's solo performances and choreography with Noorani Dance Company often address topics of historical and social relevance, evident in her traditional and innovative works including The Forgotten Empress, The Partition Project, and Nazaakat aur Taaqat - A Delicate Power. Shaikh and Noorani Dance have received numerous grants and awards that include National Endowment for the Arts, Walter & Elise Haas Fund, New England Foundation for the Arts, and California Arts Council.
