Berklee’s Masters on the Road series continues with Miguel Zenón ’98, a Guggenheim and MacArthur Fellow, composer, and jazz saxophonist, leading a student ensemble.

The student group includes trumpeter Bastien Rieser from Munich, Germany; bassist Gonn Shani from Caesarea, Israel; pianist Kento Tsubosaka from Tokyo, Japan; and drummer Roni Kaspi from Tel Aviv, Israel. Edmar Colón, assistant professor of woodwinds, selected the students by audition and is rehearsing them in Zenón’s chosen repertoire throughout the fall and spring semesters.

Zenón has selected a repertoire that encompasses the past 10 years of his recording and touring career, including pieces from records such as Awake, Esta Plena, Rayuela, and Identities Are Changeable.

Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Zenón has released 12 recordings as a leader, including the Grammy-nominated Yo Soy La Tradición (2018) and Típico (2017). As a sideman, he has worked with jazz luminaries such as Charlie Haden, Fred Hersch, Kenny Werner, David Sánchez, and Danilo Pérez.
