Márcio Borges is a famous Brazilian songwriter and author. Alongside Milton Nascimento and Lô Borges, Márcio co-founded the musical movement known as Clube da Esquina (the Corner Club), which was eternalized in the 1972 album of the same name. In 2022, Clube da Esquina was voted the best Brazilian album of all time.

Márcio’s songs have been recorded by Beto Guedes, Tavinho Moura, Elis Regina, Wayne Shorter, Stanley Turrentine, Larry Coriel, Jon Anderson, and Sérgio Mendes, among many others. Some of his most famous Portuguese-language hits include “Clube da Esquina,” “Tudo que Você Podia Ser,” “Linda Juventude,” “Planeta Sonho,” and “Cruzada.” He also has had several songs recorded in English, such as “Mountain” (with Cat Stevens), “Journey to Dawn,” “From the Lonely Afternoons,” and others.

Márcio is also an accomplished writer, film director, and public speaker. In this lecture, he will discuss his creative process, his friendship with Nascimento, and the origin and legacy of the song “Clube da Esquina,” among other topics.
