Berk Recital Hall

The Lee and Alma Berk Recital Hall is located on the ground floor at the 1140 Boylston Street building. It was named in honor of Berklee's founder Lawrence Berk and his wife Alma. The venue hosts hundreds of events each year, including faculty concerts, senior concerts, and visiting artist clinics and master classes. Events are free and open to the public, giving the Boston community an opportunity to hear the rich and diverse talent that resides on campus.

Discover her victorious musical accomplishments in spite of the Jim Crow era, the abandonment by her mother, the loss of other immediate family members, and homelessness during a period of time when the writing of music that spoke of her African heritage was not embraced by her own family members. Since the rediscovery of her music once thought lost for over 30 years, she is fast rising to fame. In addition, hear some of her music through recordings and some demonstrations of live performances.
