Becky Bass performs with her dynamic Caribbean Soul Quartet. Hailing from the beautiful island of St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands, Ms. Becky Bass is a renowned steelpannist, vocalist, and actor based in Providence, Rhode Island, who comes from a family of Caribbean musical artists. Her father, Bill Bass, known as one of the best steel pannists in the US Virgin Islands, introduced his daughter to the steel pan at the early age of 2 years old. Becky’s love of music was solidified through 10 years of classical piano, voice training, and numerous performances in musical theatre, starting at the young age of 10 and continuing throughout both her high school and college years.

As a 2013 graduate of Brown University in theatre arts and performance studies, Becky was awarded the prestigious Weston Award for Excellence in Musical Theatre upon graduation. While at Brown, she toured with the AntiGravity Theatre Project, having the opportunity to perform at the infamous Off-Broadway LaMaMa Experimental Theatre Club in NYC. She also had the wonderful opportunity to study abroad at the London Dramatic Academy under the direction of Richard Digby Day, a distinguished British stage director/professor. Her favorite credits: A Night with Lady Day as Billie Holiday (Norwich Arts Center, CT); The Sun is Shining as Sissieretta Jones (Providence, RI); Hairspray as Motormouth Maybelle (Silver Center for the Arts, NH); The Van Meder Trust (New York International Fringe Festival, Connelly Theater, NYC); Dinah Washington, Queen of the Blues as Dinah Washington (Donald L. Oat Theater, CT); RENT as Mrs. Jefferson/Blanket Lady (J.H.. Back Bay Events Center, Boston); Aida as Nehebka (Strand Theatre, Boston); Ophelia’s Cotillion as Gertrude (Rites & Reason Theatre, RI).

A two-time New England Urban Music Award winner, Becky’s angelic voice and skillful steel pan playing can now be heard while performing her Caribbean soul music as a soloist, with her own band, and with several bands, such as Zili Musik, Natural Element, and Sidy Maiga & Afrimanding, all over the New England area. She also lends her musical talents to Rhode Island’s own RPM Voices, a cross-cultural, multi-generational gospel choir led by Dr. Clarice Thompson and Delbert Collins. Becky has had the opportunity to open for and perform with such artists as Grammy Award-winning vocalist Oumou Sangare, Emmy Award-winning composer/performer Daniel Bernard Roumain, Yellowman, Warrior King, and Wyclef Jean. Within the past few years, she has also traveled nationally, including Washington D.C. to play at the National Gallery of Art’s Jazz in the Garden concert series, New York City to perform at Lincoln Center under the direction of British composer Will Todd, Vermont as the featured soloist of the 2019 Hinesburg VT Artist Series, Florida’s Amelia Island, Chicago’s Underground Wonder Bar and numerous music festivals on the East Coast.
