Four Works by Colombian Composer/Pianist Ignacio Gómez Vargas: A Critical Edition, Presented by Hector Vargas
Recital and lecture: Four Works by Ignacio Gómez Vargas: A Critical Edition.
Maestro Ignacio Gómez Vargas was an acclaimed Colombian composer and pianist. He was born in Santuario, Risaralda, Colombia in 1920 and died in Calarcá, Quindío in 2006. Part of his work are his 16 solo piano pieces, performed extensively from manuscripts, compiled by the musical entity Tuna La Calle de Calarcá.
The pianist Héctor Vargas Bonilla found deep interest in these works, given their artistic and cultural value and the personal connection that Calarcá, the city where he was born, keeps the remains of Maestro Gómez Vargas. After a decade of interpreting these pieces, he made his master's thesis project at the EAFIT University in Medellín, Colombia, to recover and create a critical edition of these pieces, focusing on four selections: "Tierra Calarqueña," "Marta Isabel," "Mariela," and "Corazón."
