Afro-Peruvian Jazz Drumming

This master class, conducted by Hugo Alcázar, will develop an approach to jazz culture that incorporates Afro-Peruvian percussion and music. Alcázar will present various criteria and elements that are part of the sound of Afro-Peruvian jazz, which in the last 20 years has stood out on different record productions of Peruvian popular music.
The first part of the session will address techniques for transferring cajón, cajita, donkey jaw, and other elements of Peruvian percussion to the drum set. Later in the session, Alcázar will discuss jazz drumming. A group of students will perform led by student Miguel Morales.
