The Perlak/Tronzo Duo bridges the worlds of classical and modern improvised music. The repertoire of Kim Perlak and David Tronzo, both faculty in the Guitar Department at Berklee College of Music, consists of co-composed works that draw on new ideas and elements of their traditions. Their clinic and performance will explore ways in which new music can be created through spontaneous composition and interpretation.

David Tronzo, a professor in the department, is a master slide guitarist, improviser, and composer. He has been voted among the top 100 guitarists of the 20th century and the top 10 jazz guitarists by Musician Magazine and best guitarist in New York City by the New York Press.

Kim Perlak, assistant chair in the department, features an inclusive approach in which the classical guitar embraces new music. The Austin American-Statesman praised her playing as “thoughtful, enchanting, vivid ... a songwriter’s circle without the lyrics.” She holds degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, Yale University School of Music, and Stetson University.
