Guitar Clinic with Leni Stern
Leni Stern ’80 is a guitarist who fuses jazz and world music into compositions and a sound that is uniquely her own. Her long career in jazz includes residencies in New York City at the 55 Bar and international touring with Bill Frisell, Dennis Chambers, and Paul Motian. As a bandleader, Stern has composed and released 21 albums. In March 2017, Guitar Player magazine named her one of the “Most Sensational Female Guitarists of All Time.”
In recent years, Stern has forged a new sound through her work with West African music and musicians. Her New York City–based trio with Mamandu Ba and Alioune Faye creates new music influenced by jazz, blues, Senegalese drumming, and the modern folk diaspora. Her goal is to “trace the interconnectedness of music, history, and our humanity.”
