TouchDesigner for Audio-Visual Performance and Installations

Course Number
EP-426
Description

The rapid advance of technology and computational systems has brought new opportunities to craft novel and sophisticated real-time experiences that rely on human-computer interactions (HCI) as well as audio-visual interactions. Current hardware allows building intricate systems, but communicating with this hardware is challenging. Tools such as Derivative’s TouchDesigner, the leading interactive media framework, simplifies the creation of novel experiences and provides creatives with approachable workflows that emphasize usability and artistry.

This course explores interactive design principles through active and passive real-time audio-visual installations and performances. Students will develop dynamic audio-reactive visuals, explore interaction techniques relying on networking protocols like MIDI and OSC, dive into image processing approaches, and learn visual composition principles.
