Description

This course assumes basic conducting technique from COND-211 Conducting 1 and covers three new topics and associated techniques used in symphonic conducting with an instrumental soloist (concerto), symphonic conducting with a vocal soloist, and symphonic conducting of a major modern work involving frequent meter changes. Works used include a romantic instrumental concerto, an operatic aria, and a mixed-meter piece such as PetrouchkaL’Histoire du soldat, or The Rite of Spring. There is an intermediate pedagogical focus on music leadership skills, rehearsal techniques, rubato, collaboration, and interpretation.
