PODCAST: Inside Berklee—Noémie Legrand '16
It’s been quite a year for the band Noé, who recently played a set at the Osheaga Festival in Montréal, Canada, as one of the bands chosen for a summer festival slot by the Berklee Popular Music Institute (BPMI), an immersive education program that pairs Berklee artists with music business students. And in fact, “quite a year” isn’t accurate, since the band only formed this past winter, 10 days before its debut gig at the sold-out BPMI showcase at the Sinclair Theater in Boston. “I think we only had three rehearsals as a full band before the show,” lead singer Noémie Legrand ’16 said.
So, how did a band that didn’t exist get chosen for such a high-profile show? In this episode of Inside Berklee, Legrand, a recent graduate who majored in songwriting, tells the story of how these two life-changing gigs came about, how the BPMI helped her rise to the occasion, and how she first came to music as a way to mentally recuperate from a long illness.
