Lynne Vadala-Doran is a vocalist and private coach who prepares students of all levels for their professional singing careers.
Boston-born and raised, Vadala-Doran has been fronting bands since her teens. She started out singing R&B and pop in Boston’s nightclubs, and quickly caught the bug for jazz. She then earned her bachelor’s degree in professional music from Berklee in 1981. Vadala-Doran never stopped performing while studying, singing nightly throughout New England’s jazz clubs, hotels, concert halls, and community venues. She later pursued her master's in jazz studies with an emphasis in pedagogy from Boston Conservatory in 1998.
Vadala-Doran began coaching both adult and child students after earning her bachelor’s degree. While perfecting jazz improvisation and repertoire, she also studied classical vocal technique and opera under Marilyn Evans of the Philadelphia Opera Co. and jazz piano studies with Jeff Covell. This fusion of jazz and classical technique allowed her to take on students and performances of all kinds.
Vadala-Doran wasted no time after graduation, recording her EP with jazz greats Bob Moses and Bruce Gertz in 1998. Looking for a change of scenery, she made the move to sunny Oahu, Hawaii, where she directed choir and taught music at Sacred Hearts Academy in Honolulu. She founded the school’s first all-female jazz and show choirs, whom she coached and accompanied to the Heritage Music Festival in Anaheim, California.
On returning to Boston, she joined the Sunita L. Williams School as its music teacher. While leading all music, chorus, band classes and concerts for a public school grades 1-5, Vadala-Doran studied child development and behavioral techniques that inform her adult lessons to this day. She returned to Berklee as a voice teacher in 2021.
Vadala-Doran has been a Jazz PAC (Jazz Performance Arts Collective) member since 2020. She co-hosts and performs within their virtual concert series Friday Evening Jazz Café Presents alongside former Berklee Voice Chair, Diane Richardson.
Jazz PAC is a collaborative of musicians who “... collaborate on programs that span the history of jazz from its roots… the African Diaspora, ranging from Negro Spirituals and African American Art Songs to the Harlem Renaissance."
