Kanan M. Shah is an innovator and educator who focuses on helping students move from ideas to actually building something. As an assistant professor at Berklee College of Music, Shah teaches at the intersection of entrepreneurship, strategy, and the creative industries, giving students practical tools while also creating space to explore, experiment, and figure things out for themselves. A big part of this work is helping students not just build ventures, but think more intentionally about the kind of life and career they want to design.

Shah’s work is shaped by experiences across Germany, Italy, England, Australia, India, and Canada, bringing a global perspective into the classroom. With a background in startup acceleration, social innovation, and consulting, Shah has worked closely with founders and organizations to build and grow new ideas. Beyond Berklee, Shah is involved with JunoHub, a founder-first creative venture studio that helps people get started, build, and upskill, especially in places where access to resources and opportunities is limited.

Based in Boston, Shah spends time outside of work running along the Charles and painting, both as ways to slow down and stay connected to creativity.

In Their Own Words

I want students to leave my classes not just with frameworks, but with the confidence to build, experiment, and think for themselves. Most innovation comes from doing—from having the space to explore, take risks, and turn ideas into something real. At the end of the day, it’s about staying authentic, building resilience, and realizing this isn’t just work, it’s a mindset and a way of living.
