Composer/pianist Amanda Harberg's work has been presented by the world’s leading orchestras and soloists in major venues all over the world, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Verizon Hall, Symphony Center, the Newport Music Festival, the Moab Music Festival, and more. Her writing for a wide range of instruments weaves classical western tradition with contemporary influences to create a distinctively personal style. “She invigorates the brain and touches the soul,” says iconic American composer John Corigliano. “I love her work.”

Harberg’s woodwind music has entered the repertoire and is frequently performed and recorded worldwide. After conducting the premiere of her Piccolo Concerto with the Philadelphia Orchestra and soloist Erica Peel, renowned maestro Yannick Nézet-Séguin referred to the work as “an extraordinary addition to the limited repertoire.” The Chicago Symphony refers to her as “something of a hero in the flute and piccolo community.” Her woodwind concerti have been performed during gala concerts at the ClarinetFest® (2022) and the National Flute Convention (2021) and continue to be performed frequently by orchestras and wind ensembles at professional and university levels. Her concerto for viola and orchestra was recorded on Naxos American Classics to critical acclaim, and has been played all over the world. Harberg’s music is published by the Theodore Presser Company and AH Publishing, and is frequently used as required repertoire for student and professional competitions.

In Their Own Words
My primary goal as a teacher is to help students embrace their vast creative potential through study of foundational elements, such as melody, harmony, rhythm, timbre, form, and notation. Classes and lessons are geared toward helping students expand their toolbox so that they may create work that jumps off the page with expressivity and life.

As a professional composer and performer for over 30 years, I understand the importance of developing technical ability while meeting students where they are in their individual process. Each of us has a unique path for unlocking a musically vital life. I am here to support my students in finding the path that is most authentic for them, while helping them to build the skills that they will need in order to have a successful career.
