This event is designed to welcome new and returning brass principals at Berklee College of Music. Attendees can greet friends and make new ones, hear from faculty, and learn more about what is new and exciting in the Brass Department this year.
The annual Fall Brass Showcase is a department-wide competition featuring three of the top bands selected from a pool of audition submissions. These exceptional ensembles will compete for the chance to be featured alongside our special guest at the Spring Brass Showcase.
This concert features an evening of excellence with performances by a special guest artist and by the student winner of the Fall Brass Showcase Competition.
Violin soloist Anyango Yarbo-Davenport performs Concerto in D for violin and orchestra by Wynton Marsalis. The evening will also include the overture from Richard Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Florence Price's Dances in the Canebrakes, and selections from John Williams's score for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
Louis D. Rivera Gotay presents his senior jazz composition recital, featuring original compositions and arrangements inspired by Puerto Rican traditions and contemporary jazz.
The Jazz Composition Festival opens with a master class featuring two of the most influential voices in jazz trombone: Jennifer Wharton and John Fedchock. Wharton, the powerhouse bass trombonist behind the Grammy-nominated Bonegasm, joins acclaimed trombonist and arranger Fedchock, leader of the celebrated New York Big Band, to share their unique perspectives on performance, improvisation, and composition.
