This course explores the roles of the various music business intermediaries, with emphasis on artist managers, talent agents, and entertainment attorneys. Students learn the intricacies of advising, representing, and furthering the careers of artists, focusing on the establishment of mutually beneficial working relationships. Topics include best practices for developing an artist’s career, management contracts, the mechanics of talent booking and contracting, union and government regulations, fee/commission structures, fiduciary duties, budgeting, finding success through ethical business practices, and more.
