Audio Foundations of Interactive Media
Composers in this course develop the awareness and skillset to immerse the listener in the full soundscape of interactive projects. Working with the complementary audio categories of ambience, sound design, and dialogue, composers create and implement audio for interactive media. Through the study and creation of a range of sound sources including recorded, synthesized, and library sounds, students begin to discern different approaches practiced in this field.
Working closely with the composers in GAIM-471, students in this course are responsible for sound design of potential collaboration projects with other universities (when available). In addition, students will experiment with field, location, and foley recording while building a portfolio of work based on interactive projects in well-utilized game engines such as Unity and Unreal.
Basic dialogue recording sessions will allow the student to practice hands-on examples of level matching and concatenation of sounds. Concepts such as randomization, prioritization, finalizing of assets, and file management expectations are explored and required for their final project. Students will be introduced to the concept of versioning systems as they build and iterate sounds for working interactive projects.
