Advanced Scoring for Interactive Media
This course continues to build on the foundations learned in GAIM-371. It features advanced approaches to scoring for video games and interactive media, including implementation in commonly used audio middleware such as WWISE and/or FMOD alongside industry-standard interactive engines such as Unity and/or Unreal. The course includes recording sessions, guest speakers, collaboration projects with other universities (when available), and applied scoring projects to develop the knowledge and skills that video game composers and technical audio positions are using in today's industry. This course deepens the preparation of students for entry level work in music at a game development company or as a freelance game music professional, including experience with typical game music workflow utilizing current software production methodologies and pipelines such as SCRUM, Agile, and software versioning systems.
As an advanced scoring course, composers will be guided to further develop their own unique musical voice. Through the bi-weekly meetings composers will receive peer and faculty feedback as they develop several musical works throughout the semester. Applying skills learned in previous semesters, students will be expected to produce high quality recording sessions that meet industry standards. By demonstrating a high level of composition and arranging skills, composers will develop musical approaches that support player-driven interactive experiences.
