Mixing for the Producer

Course Number
CMSP-650
Description

Students enrolled in this course will explore the technical and creative aspects of mixing and develop critical listening skills. Students achieve competency in current mixing tools and techniques including EQ, dynamics processors, distortion, and time-based/spatial effects. These skills will be introduced from the perspective of a producer/songwriter, showing how developing a “mixing mindset” and planning for the final sound from the initial birth of the song can improve efficiency and lead to more effective productions. Students will develop their ability to analyze contemporary productions and mixes and use them as a reference to improve and troubleshoot their own productions. The second half of the course will shift to a workshop format with a focus on improving student’s final CE mixes.
