Strayhorn Scholarship Concert

The first annual Strayhorn Scholarship Concert celebrates the 2023 and 2024 winners of the Billy Strayhorn Jazz Education Scholarship for Piano and Composition, Kyle Tanaka and Mariia Kovalenko. This scholarship, made possible by the Billy Strayhorn Foundation, is awarded annually to a Berklee College of Music piano principal student who demonstrates excellence and originality in their own music, as well as in their interpretation of Strayhorn’s music. Our award-winning students will showcase Strayhorn masterpieces and original compositions.
Pianist and composer Billy Strayhorn, best known for his association with Duke Ellington, was one of the 20th century’s finest musicians, and composed such gems as “Lush Life,” “Take the A Train,” and “Star-Crossed Lovers.”
