Valerio Appuzzo is an Italian trumpet player, music educator, and researcher currently based in Boston, where he is completing his master’s degree in global jazz at Berklee College of Music. His artistic work explores the intersection between contemporary performance, jazz language, and oral musical traditions, with a particular focus on Mediterranean and Southern Italian repertoires.

He has studied and collaborated with internationally renowned artists such as Kenny Werner, Danilo Pérez, Jason Palmer, and Miguel Zenón, developing his practice within both academic and professional artistic contexts.

Alongside his activity as a performer, Appuzzo is deeply involved in music education, working as a teacher and ensemble coach with young musicians and community-based projects. His pedagogical approach integrates instrumental practice with listening, collective music-making, and cultural awareness.

Appuzzo’s current research interests include the transcription and reinterpretation of traditional vocal repertoires, the relationship between memory and sound, and the role of improvisation in the transmission of oral traditions. Through his projects, he aims to bridge academic research and live performance, developing a personal musical language that connects ethnomusicology, jazz, and contemporary artistic practices.

Valerio Apuzzo will be performing as part of Berklee’s Summer in the City 2026 concert series. View series schedule.
