Esaie Hounmenou is a guitarist and composer from Porto-Novo, Benin, whose music blends modern jazz with the traditional rhythms of West Africa. Rooted in Beninese folk music and shaped by the freedom of jazz, his sound is both deeply rhythmic and highly expressive.

After studying music in Paris for five years, Hounmenou continued his artistic journey at Berklee College of Music, where he has collaborated with musicians from around the world and further refined his unique voice. His playing weaves soulful grooves, rich harmony, and storytelling improvisation.

Currently based in Boston, Hounmenou creates original music that honors African musical heritage while pushing the boundaries of contemporary jazz.

Esaïe Menou Band will be performing as part of Berklee’s Summer in the City 2026 concert series. View series schedule.
