Max MSP 2: Real-Time Audio Systems

Course Number
MTI-672
Description

This course expands upon MTI-571 Max MSP 1: Fundamentals to focus on building performance-ready, real-time audio systems. Students will design custom instruments, audio effects, and interactive musical environments using Max/MSP and Max for Live, integrating controllers, sensors, OSC, and networked communication. The course emphasizes modular design, playability, and expressive control — how sound can be shaped live through gesture, pressure, dynamics, structure, and interaction. Through iterative prototyping and refinement, students will develop systems that are technically stable and aesthetically intentional. By the end of the course, students will have created their own personalized performance tools (instruments, effects, or hybrid environments) that are capable of being used in studio practice, live performance, or installation settings.
