International Legal Principles explores the legal landscape governing the global music and entertainment industries, providing students with an understanding of both public and private international law. The course covers key areas such as international treaties, trade laws, intellectual property protections, data privacy, and digital rights, all within the context of a rapidly globalizing entertainment market. Through case studies and legal analysis, students will examine how issues like cross-border licensing, jurisdictional disputes, and international trade regulations impact artists, labels, and digital platforms.

Students will gain insights into the legal complexities of operating in multiple jurisdictions, including topics on treaty obligations, extraterritorial jurisdiction, and the enforcement of intellectual property rights across borders. Emphasis will be placed on recent issues such as cyber theft, digital rights management, and the role of international organizations in regulating media and technology companies worldwide. This course prepares students to navigate the international legal environment and equips them with critical thinking skills to address emerging global legal challenges in music and entertainment.
