Description

MB-388 Entertainment Law provides a foundational understanding of the legal principles governing the entertainment industry. While focusing on the music sector, students will also explore legal frameworks applicable to film, television, advertising, video games, and digital media. The course examines the vital interplay between creative expression, commercial exploitation, and legal protection, with a strong emphasis on intellectual property, rights of publicity, defamation, and contract law as they apply to artists, producers, and industry professionals.

Through a blend of statutory analysis, case law, and practical exercises, students will gain insight into the unique legal challenges posed by the rapid evolution of technology, including social media, streaming platforms, and artificial intelligence. Key areas covered will include copyright, trademark and patent protection, ethical considerations in entertainment representation, and the role of lawyers in advocating for clients while navigating the complexities of the First Amendment. By the end of the course, students will understand the legal landscape that shapes the industry and will have developed critical skills in legal analysis, contract interpretation, and ethical decision-making in a media-driven environment.
