This course explores how music affects the brain and nervous system, and how these processes inform treatment and recovery in various clinical settings. Through lectures, readings, and experiential activities, students will explore how music influences brain structure and function across the lifespan, from development to aging. Emphasis is placed on connecting neuroscience to real-world practice, enabling students to interpret research, understand the mechanisms of change, and learn music-based approaches to health and well-being. The course bridges science and artistry, preparing students to communicate across disciplines and to apply neuroscience insights to advance creativity, care, and human connection through music.
