Latin Pop Songwriting and Production
Latin pop is a diverse mix of genres, styles, and language. A fusion of traditional genres infused with styles of hip-hop, R&B, pop, and EDM, Latin pop represents one of the fastest growing market segments of the music industry today. From reggaeton, bachata, and cumbia, to regional Mexican styles, rock, and so much more, Latin pop has risen on the world stage and taken over streaming and radio airwaves across the globe. This course is an advanced songwriting project class focusing on Latin pop music’s various genres and styles at a depth beyond what is possible in a general songwriting class. The class will also cover music production tools and techniques utilized in the Latin pop market segment. Topics may include: songwriting in specific Latin musical genres and styles; new creative works inspired by analysis of the work of seminal songwriters, artists, and/or groups; and professional areas of focus that demand specialized songwriting knowledge and technical skills. The course will include critical listening, analysis, songwriting, and revision, and is designed to enrich the students' understanding of songwriting as it pertains to Latin pop.
