French drummer Guilhem Fourty's trio features Brazilian mandolinist Ian Coury and Italian pianist Cesare Panizzi. Emerging from a shared love for traditional Brazilian music styles such as choro, samba jazz, frevo, and many others, the group plays in an instrumental format that is unique for the genre, forging a signature sound.
This concert will feature a variety of Brazilian music standards performed with a modern approach and influenced by some of the greatest contemporary jazz artists, including Hamilton de Holanda, Marcio Bahia, and Vitor Gonçalves. Mostly focused on standards from the choro repertoire (a style originating in the 19th century that combines European and African influences), the trio also will be performing compositions influenced by other genres.
