Current Trends and Practices in Music Education Technology

ME-520

This course is designed to introduce students to a vast array of tools and resources that will enable them to develop a standards-based and theory-supported rationale for integrating technology into the K-12 music curriculum. Project-based in nature, this course will provide students with skills and strategies that can be aligned with any level of teaching—elementary, middle, and high school—and will emphasize developing successful curricular approaches that promote and support creativity in the classroom and rehearsal room. Topics include music technology and learning; implementing technology in the K-12 music curriculum; composition and technology; utilizing music creation software applications; utilizing online resources and tools for teaching, learning, and assessment; utilizing a variety of digital media tools; and copyright issues relevant to music education. In addition, emphasis will be placed on the development of a professional ePortfolio in the form of a website that is representative of the student’s educational goals, philosophy, and skills.
