Technology and Disruption in the Music Industry
This course explores the past, present, and future of innovation in the music industry. Students will analyze case studies on key examples of technological and disruptive innovation that have radically shifted the industry, such as peer-to-peer file sharing, music streaming services, home recording technologies, and beyond. Students will research and engage with emerging technologies that are revolutionizing various aspects of the industry, including the artist-fan relationship, artist-fan marketing, data management, licensing and equitable payments to rights holders, among others.
The course will include a series of panels and interviews with industry professionals at the cutting-edge of innovation in the music industry, thus allowing students to stay current, network, and get an intimate look into the innovation mindset.
