Description

The Musical Theater Pit Band will perform the music of emerging musical theater composers. Students will collaborate with stage performers in the PSVC-132 and other Berklee Theater Arts Collective courses. In this course, students will participate in sight reading new musical theater works and have weekly supervised rehearsals in conjunction with PSVC-132 Theater for Young Audiences ensemble. Students will gain experience in performing in a variety of styles inherent in different contemporary musical theater scores. Emphasis will be given to stylistic integrity, as well as melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic accuracy. Students will learn about the editing process in orchestration as it pertains to new work collaboration between the composer and arranger/orchestrator, and how the musicians work within those changes. (General Instrumentation: piano, bass, drums, guitar, two reed doublers).
