This course provides an in-depth examination of how record labels operate and evolve in today’s dynamic music industry. Students will explore the structure and core functions of both major and independent labels, including A&R, business affairs, marketing, finance, and catalog management. Key topics will include artist-label relationships, recording contracts, production logistics, rights management, and the legal and financial considerations surrounding sound recordings. Through real-world case studies, contract analysis, and applied exercises, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of how labels sign, develop, distribute, and monetize recorded music. Special attention will be given to the impact of digital transformation, evolving business models, and the role of data analytics in guiding strategic decision-making across departments.
